On the 24th of April 2016, the Men in Black held their 11th Annual Freemasons Show and Shine.


This event was a huge success with many motorcyclists in attendance, packing the car park at the rear of the Burnside Town Hall, where coffee and egg and bacon sandwiches were served. At 10:00 a.m. about 130 riders left Burnside Town Hall and made their way via the Southern Expressway to Kangarilla for a half hour stop at the Kangarilla Football Club.


On arrival at the Kangarilla Football Club the entrants made their way to the Club Rooms for some light refreshments.


Just before midday the Road Captain gathered the riders together and with the motorcycles assembled, headed to Birdwood via Hahndorf for the final leg of the run to the National Motor Museum.


On arrival, the riders made their way around the back of the Birdwood National Motor Museum via Blumel Road entrance where the Marshals directed the motorcycles into their various categories, ready for the Show and Shine and the judging of the various classes.

The band "Flick and the Switch" was playing on arrival and entertained the entrants and visitors throughout the day. A sausage sizzle, drinks and ice creams were available on site for everyone’s convenience. Entry to the Museum was free for those who made the $20 donation and entered into the Ride.


Judging of the Show and Shine took place at 1:00 p.m. and the trophies, (which were supplied by Bike Works of Adelaide), were handed out at 2:00 p.m. to the winners of the respective classes. The classes this year comprised of American, British, European, Japanese, Best Overall Bike, Best Ladies Bike, Longest Distance Travelled and Best Overall Car.


With the Show and Shine in its final stages Will Harrison from the Lewis Lodge of Brighton announced the winning ticket numbers of the Raffle, to the delight of the winners. There were many prizes on offer including ten tool sets donated by Dassa Motorcycles, LED Flood Lights donated by P&R Electrical, a meal voucher donated by Blair Park Country Club, a battery voucher from Independent Battery Distributors and six bottles of wine donated by Celebrations of Blackwood.


This year it was great to see so many Freemasons riding, participating and supporting this great Community Event, in what was near-perfect weather. Everyone who attended commented how well this year’s Event went, enjoying a great family atmosphere throughout the day. Next year, the event will be in its twelfth year and the Committee have plans to make it bigger and better, starting with a name change, to the “Freemasons 12th Annual Motorcycle Run”.

The proceeds of this year’s Show and Shine (which total $6000) will be donated to the Freemason Foundation Centre for Men’s Health which was established as a joint venture between the University of Adelaide and the Freemasons Foundation in September 2007 with the vision to enable men to live longer, healthier and happier lives. The Centre's approach to men's health is multi-disciplinary involving a team of world-renowned experts collaborating across clinical services, research programs and continuing education on various aspects of men's health. By sharing interests, strengths and resources, this partnership aims to deliver life changing research to benefit all men.
